Built by someone who actually loves this.
My name is Will Retherford. Twilight Optics is a small, independent shop run out of southeastern Alabama. Every unit is assembled here from separately sourced components, tested on the bench, and packed by hand. Tubes come from CETC in Nanjing through QCNV. Housings sourced independently. Nothing arrives pre-assembled from a factory and gets forwarded to you. That is not how this works.
I'm an electrical & electronics engineering student finishing my bachelor's, with my sights set on a master's in optical engineering. None of that is a coincidence: I grew up around night vision and thermals, and the moment I understood how a fistful of photons becomes a clear image, I was hooked. That fascination is what pushed me into engineering in the first place, and Twilight is where the schooling and the obsession meet.
That background is also why the most important thing this brand is built on is transparency, and everything that comes with it: numbers, not hype. Night vision started as a hobby, turned into a passion, and now it is something I am actively building a career around. So every Twilight unit ships with its own data sheet, because you deserve to see exactly what you are getting, the same way I would want to.
The way we work.
Test everything
Every tube is bench-tested and run before it ships. The measured sheet goes in the box with your serial number.
Build it right
Housings are nitrogen-purged and sealed against fog and moisture. We assemble and check each one by hand.
Tell the truth
Gen 2+ is called Gen 2+. We won't dress a tube up as something it isn't, the spec sheet keeps us honest.
Yes, I used AI.
This site was built with the help of AI, specifically Claude. I will own that. The words, the decisions, what we say and what we don't say are all mine. But I am one person running a shop and finishing an engineering degree, and pretending I hand-coded every line at midnight would be its own kind of dishonesty.
Honest truth: the optics and night vision side of this came naturally. The coding and web development side was a steeper learning curve than I expected. More head-scratching over a div tag than I ever had over a tube spec. AI filled that gap and let me build something I'm actually proud of, without spending six months learning frontend development first.
The philosophy behind this brand, the pricing, the decision to publish tube data instead of hiding it, the questions I ask suppliers, none of that came from a chatbot. AI helped me build it out faster than I could alone. That is it.
If you can spot the em dashes, now you know why they are there. It does not change what is in the box.
Hell, Claude technically wrote this section too. I typed it out, handed it to him, and he put it on the page. Make of that what you will.
Talk to a real person.
Reach out before or after you buy, I answer spec questions myself.
